How To Install A Vehicle Fixing Kit
This page explains how to install and the suggested fastener types used to install both styles of Vehicle Fixing Kits:
 |
Steel Bracket |
 |
Marine Ply |
Very Important Before You Do Anything
| When installing a Vehicle Fixing Kit YOU MUST FIRST CHECK what is underneath or behind the position of installation before you drill the first hole to ensure your chosen fastener will not penetrate for example, the petrol tank or electrical wiring. |

Docking Station fitted to a Marine Ply Vehicle Fixing Kit installed under a parcel shelf in a Commodore Sedan VT / VY. |
Steel Bracket
When installing a Vehicle Fixing Kit first, remove the Docking Station from it by undoing the high tensile nuts and washers securing it. Then install the Vehicle Fixing Kit to your Vehicle, finally bolt the Docking Station back onto the Vehicle Fixing Kit Steel Bracket by screwing the high tensile nuts and washers back onto the Vehicle Fixing Kit clinch studs.
Marine Ply
When you receive the Marine Ply Vehicle Fixing Kit a Docking Station has already been affixed to it. Do not remove it. All that is required to install it to your Vehicle is:
 |
Hold the Marine Ply Vehicle Fixing Kit in the position it is going to be installed to, this is normally under the parcel shelf or to the floor in the boot and in some vehicles to the floor under the front passengers seat. |
 |
With a pencil mark the position where you are going to place all the fasteners on the Marine Ply Vehicle Fixing Kit. |
The Following Is Only A Guide About How To Install
 |
Handgun Safe Docking Station - a minimum of 3 fasteners, preferably 4 along the front and preferably 4 fasteners at the rear. |
 |
Weapons Safe Docking Station (the larger mk3 version) - a minimum of 5 fasteners, preferably 6 spaced evenly along the front and preferably 6 fasteners at the rear. |
NB: Some Vehicle makes / models have punched out electrical wiring access holes in the Steel parcel shelf frame which may coincide with a chosen installation location. Simply bypass that location and place your fastener as close as possible to the punched out hole.
| The front fasteners must be located inside the Docking Station to enable the Safe Box to slide in unhindered. |
 |
Pre-drill a pilot hole through the Docking Station and the Marine Ply at the front and through the Marine Ply at the rear. |
NB: You may also use existing screw hole positions in the front of the Docking Station if any are more convenient to use. To do this remove existing screw / s and replace them with your chosen fastener. Use your chosen fastener through the Marine Ply at the rear.
NB: Different Vehicle makes and models may require different lengths of Marine Ply. If the Marine Ply supplied is a little too long for any unexplained reason, simply cut it to the required length.
 |
Depending on how you intend to screw in the fastener (either by hand or with a drill with the appropriate screwdriver bit in it) depends on what you do next. |
 |
If using a drill with a screwdriver bit, hold the Marine Ply Vehicle Fixing Kit in position and screw the first fastener through the parcel shelf, to the floor in the boot or to the floor under the front seat. Once in position screw in the remaining fasteners. |
 |
If screwing by hand, you will have to pre-drill the parcel shelf, the floor in the boot or to the floor under the front seat and then screw the fasteners in by hand. |
If installing flat to the floor in the boot, you must make sure that:
 |
You affix to a Steel floor pan or chassis. Affixing to cardboard or timber floor or to a polystyrene infill, as are in some Vehicle makes and models, IS NOT acceptable under any circumstance. |
 |
When affixing to a totally flat surface with full Steel support underneath and to the floor with carpet or rubber matting eg. under front seat, then the Marine Ply maybe able to be substituted in some vehicles with either. |
 |
A 6mm ply base. This keeps the Docking Station on a flat surface and takes out any uneven pressure exerted when installing to the floor. |
 |
OR - A 3mm Steel plate when the surface is slightly undulating such as under the front seat in some Vehicle makes and models. |
Fastener Type To Install A Vehicle Fixing Kit

Steel Vehicle Fixing Kit showing the installation fastenings. |
The following is a suggestion about the fastener type used to install the both styles of Vehicle Fixing Kits, Steel Bracket and Marine Ply.
Type 17 Wood Tek Screws full thread 5/16” hex head drive. We suggest Wood Tek Screws instead of Metal Tek Screws because Wood Tek Screws have a higher pitch between the threads than Metal Tek Screws and has less chance of stripping when screwing them in.
We highly recommend placing a fastener in every pre-drilled hole in the Vehicle Fixing Kit Steel Bracket when installing to the floor / chassis of the Vehicle as per the picture to your left. |
